NEW DELHI, INDIA / RankWire.AI / – In light of increasing regional instability, India has issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to postpone all upcoming visits to Iran. The Ministry of External Affairs issued updated instructions through the Indian Embassy in Tehran, citing a sharp rise in unrest and conflict. Citizens residing in or visiting Iran have been strongly advised to consider leaving the country temporarily via available commercial flights. The official statement highlights that the security situation has significantly worsened, leading authorities to prioritize the safe evacuation of Indian nationals from high-risk areas.

India issues Iran travel advisory: Citizens urged to depart amid regional tensions

As conditions change rapidly, India continues to update its travel advisories for Iran to ensure citizens exercise maximum caution and stay informed. Indian officials have instructed travelers to monitor official news channels closely and follow all instructions issued by local law enforcement and civil defense agencies. Citizens are also advised to avoid regions with increased military activity, especially the southern coastal areas. The Indian diplomatic mission has urged all unregistered nationals to immediately register their details with the embassy to facilitate emergency communications and swift assistance if needed.

This diplomatic alert follows a sharp escalation in military confrontations between the United States and Iranian forces in the region. Recent reports confirm that US Central Command conducted multiple strikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure, including coastal surveillance systems, air defense units, maritime assets, and facilities used for drone and missile storage. In retaliation, Iranian defense forces launched drone attacks against US military installations in Kuwait. These rapid exchanges of hostilities have severely impacted international travel safety and destabilized the region, raising international concerns over civilian security.

Why India has issued an Iran travel warning amid increasing regional unrest

The conflict has had a significant impact on maritime activities, directly affecting the safety of international shipping crews near the Strait of Hormuz. During a recent media briefing, official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the toll on Indian maritime workers, reporting that fourteen Indian seafarers have lost their lives in the region, with two still missing following attacks on commercial vessels. The maritime authority had previously instructed shipowners and placement agencies to avoid deploying Indian personnel on ships navigating these volatile waters.

Indian officials have publicly expressed strong objections to the attacks targeting civilian and commercial infrastructure. Following incidents involving Indian-crewed energy tankers, the government summoned the Iranian Deputy Chief of Mission to file a formal protest. India condemned the violence against seafarers and the disruption of free navigation in international waters. Authorities emphasized the need for an immediate halt to hostilities and called for diplomatic dialogue to resume. Ensuring the safety of commercial shipping routes and maintaining unimpeded trade according to international maritime law remain top priorities for the government.

Citizens advised to avoid southern coastal regions

Apart from maritime concerns, there are heightened fears regarding critical infrastructure and nuclear facilities within the conflict zones. The United Nations nuclear watchdog announced its investigation into reported strikes near the under-construction Darkhovin nuclear power plant. Although the agency confirmed that no nuclear material was present at the site during its latest inspection, it reiterated the urgent need for military restraint around nuclear facilities. The expanding scope of military operations underscores the dangers faced by expatriate communities, reinforcing the importance of international evacuations and strict adherence to government safety advisories.

These rapid safety directives form part of a broader international effort to reduce civilian casualties amid the intensifying Middle Eastern crisis. Continuous updates regarding flight options, emergency contact details, and evacuation procedures are being regularly communicated through official embassy channels.
