The upward trend continued with an increase to $56.2939 billion in July, culminating in the August record. The three consecutive monthly gains added more than $4 billion to the total reserves. Compared to August 2025, the latest figure is approximately $7.96 billion higher, representing an annual growth rate of around 16.2%.
Remittances Contribute Significantly to Foreign Currency Inflows
Remittances from Egyptians abroad also hit a record high during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, with the Central Bank of Egypt reporting total inflows of about $47.3 billion. This is a notable increase from roughly $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year, reflecting a rise of 29.6%. Remittances in June alone reached approximately $4.2 billion, with that monthly figure being 15.6% higher than the about $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025.
Egypt’s recent balance of payments data covers the first nine months of fiscal year 2025/2026. During the period from July to March, Egypt experienced a overall balance deficit of $1.8 billion, while the capital and financial account saw net inflows of $9.9 billion. The current account recorded a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures offer the latest official insight into Egypt’s external financial position prior to the August reserve update.
Reserves Continue Monthly Growth in 2026
Throughout 2026, the reserve totals have hit successive record highs in nominal terms. Reserves exceeded $55 billion in June, went beyond $56 billion in July, and surpassed $57 billion in August for the first time. Egypt now reports three consecutive month-end reserve totals above $55 billion, with the August figure more than 10% higher than the $51.4516 billion recorded at the end of December 2025.
These latest statistics place Egypt’s net international reserves at their highest level ever recorded and demonstrate a continuous monthly increase since the beginning of 2026. From January through August, each month’s reserve total was higher than the previous one. Although the August figure is provisional under the central bank’s reporting standards, the data clearly indicate an upward trend across the first eight months of the year.
