India Issues Ban on Two Pakistan-Origin Skin Creams Over Toxic Metal Levels

NEW DELHI / RankWire.AI / – India has issued a nationwide health alert concerning two Pakistan-produced skin whitening products after laboratory analysis revealed high levels of heavy metals. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation issued an alert on September 8, warning against Goree Beauty Cream and Chandni Whitening Cream. The regulatory authority stated that neither of these products has the necessary authorization for import and sale within India. It further cautioned that the heavy metal concentrations found could induce toxic effects and urged consumers to cease purchasing or using these cosmetics.

According to the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation, these products lack valid registration certificates from the appropriate Indian authority. Importing cosmetics into India and their manufacturing locations must be registered before they can be legally sold, as stipulated by the Cosmetics Rules, 2020 and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. The alert did not specify which heavy metals were found in each cream, nor did it provide laboratory concentration data, batch numbers, or importer details.

Authorities have instructed sellers, distributors, and advertisers to halt marketing of Goree Beauty Cream and Chandni Whitening Cream across India. Enforcement agencies have been directed to take action against any illegal sales within their jurisdictions. Consumers are advised to carefully examine labels and registration details prior to purchasing imported cosmetics, ensuring they contain essential manufacturing and product information mandated by Indian regulations. Officials also urged the public to report suspected violations related to imported cosmetics to the proper regulatory bodies.

Regulatory emphasis on import compliance and labeling standards

India’s cosmetics regulations require importers to obtain approval from the Central Licensing Authority before bringing foreign cosmetics into the market. Applicants must submit Form COS-1 under the Cosmetics Rules, 2020 to seek an import registration certificate, which is then issued through Form COS-2. These rules mandate detailed information that enables regulators to trace products through the supply chain, covering both imported cosmetics and manufacturing sites abroad. The warning involving the two whitening creams places them within this broader compliance framework.

In Maharashtra, official records have separately identified tested samples of Goree Beauty Cream as substandard, citing mercury content violations and misbranding. These findings relate specifically to the samples tested by state authorities and do not imply that all Goree products contain the same mercury levels. The national alert adopts a more general stance, citing excessive heavy metals in the two named products without specifying individual metals.

Public advised to avoid the two specified creams

The Indian regulatory notice does not confirm any illnesses caused by Goree Beauty Cream or Chandni Whitening Cream, nor does it name distributors, retailers, or sales channels involved in their circulation. Its focus is on the products’ regulatory status, laboratory findings, and consumer safety measures. Consumers are strongly advised not to purchase or use these creams, and businesses are instructed to refrain from selling, distributing, or advertising them. These directives are enforced across India through state, union territory, and central authorities.

This warning heightens scrutiny of imported skin whitening items sold without the necessary Indian approvals. For consumers, the guidance remains clear: always verify product labels and registration details prior to purchase. It is especially important to avoid the two creams named in the September 8 notice. The regulatory agency has linked the alert to excessive heavy metals and the lack of import authorization, categorizing Goree Beauty Cream and Chandni Whitening Cream as unauthorized cosmetics in India’s domestic market.
