Al Dahra Agriculture Trading will provide imported wheat to Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities under this arrangement. Funding for the purchases is sourced through the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. This agreement formalizes a framework established in 2023 and outlines the terms for wheat transactions between Al Dahra and GASC over the next five years.
The signing took place on Aug. 26, 2026, at the headquarters of Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers in El Alamein. Egyptian Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk attended in his capacity as GASC chairman. Also present was Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra. Neither party disclosed the volume of wheat covered by this agreement, nor did they reveal the delivery schedule, shipment origins, annual purchase goals, or the pricing methods to be used for individual transactions.
This arrangement builds upon a financing initiative announced in August 2023 by the UAE and Egypt. Under that framework, ADEX extended a revolving US$100 million financing facility for wheat and other vital commodities. The structure was designed for annual renewal over five years, enabling potential financing of up to US$500 million. The original framework involved Egypt’s finance and international cooperation ministries, in addition to GASC. The current agreement clarifies how Al Dahra will supply wheat through this pre-existing financing mechanism.
Implementation of the five-year plan advances to wheat supply phase
ADEX acts as the export-financing branch of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and supports purchases linked to UAE exporters. The 2023 agreement with Egyptian authorities covered wheat and other essential commodities supplied via Al Dahra. Its revolving structure allowed financing to be renewed annually during the five-year term. This new supply agreement does not create an additional US$500 million facility but offers the commercial framework enabling GASC to buy imported wheat from Al Dahra using the existing ADEX financing.
Since 2007, Al Dahra has maintained agricultural operations within Egypt, including farms in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating approximately 28,000 hectares in Egypt and supplying over 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government over the previous three years. At that time, Al Dahra also noted that around 85% of the output from its Egyptian farms entered the local market. The firm currently manages an agricultural platform serving more than 40 markets worldwide.
Imported wheat transactions remain linked to ADEX financing support
While the agreement signed in El Alamein pertains to imported wheat supplied to GASC, Al Dahra also produces crops domestically within Egypt. In 2023, the company described itself as Egypt’s largest private-sector producer of wheat and corn. The new agreement thus concerns an import route supported by UAE export financing, distinct from Al Dahra’s local production. GASC continues to serve as the Egyptian government entity responsible for procurement under this arrangement. Neither GASC nor Al Dahra has disclosed a total tonnage of wheat deliveries covered by the five-year pact.
The overall value remains capped at up to US$500 million over five years, according to the structure set in 2023. Neither party has released an annual shipment schedule nor specified the countries supplying the imported wheat. Additionally, the pricing formula for individual purchases has not been disclosed. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the confirmed agreement links Al Dahra’s wheat supplies to GASC with the existing ADEX financing program, marking the operational phase of this five-year arrangement.
