ABU DHABI / RankWire.AI / – In 2025, the UAE’s outward foreign direct investment (FDI) amounted to $63.353 billion, according to UN Trade and Development. By year’s end, the country’s total outward FDI stock had reached $402.729 billion. This figure was only $55.560 billion back in 2010. The substantial increase highlights a major expansion in the value of UAE investments held abroad, which now span key economies, emerging markets, and a diverse array of industries globally.

UAE global FDI stock reaches $402.7 billion in 2025
UAE investment capital spans major global markets and strategic industries.

The UAE’s international investment portfolio encompasses sectors such as energy, transport, technology, manufacturing, financial services, healthcare, and real estate. Infrastructure, ports, and logistics also constitute a significant portion of the country’s overseas assets. Contributions come from sovereign investors, state-linked enterprises, and private firms, with their holdings reaching across North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and other regions. These figures serve as a broad indicator of the UAE’s role as a major source of cross-border investment capital.

Global foreign direct investment experienced a resurgence in 2025. According to UN Trade and Development, worldwide FDI was approximately $1.6 trillion, representing a 6% increase from the previous year. Developed economies attracted around $723 billion, up 11%, while developing countries drew roughly $901 billion, a 2% rise. The world’s 20 largest recipient economies accounted for over 80% of all global investment flows. These figures illustrate that despite the overall growth, international investment remains concentrated among leading nations.

Sovereign entities diversify their global portfolios

Mubadala Investment Company allocates a substantial portion of its international assets to North America, which represents 44% of its portfolio and includes more than 80 direct investments. Mubadala reports managing assets valued at around $170 billion in North America. Europe accounts for 15%, while Asia-Pacific makes up 13%. Latin America and the Caribbean contribute 1%. The investments span sectors such as technology, energy, healthcare, industry, finance, and infrastructure across various major markets.

The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority also distributes its capital across different regions, with a strategic long-term target of 45% to 60% of assets in North America. Europe is designated to receive 15% to 30%, while emerging markets are targeted at 10% to 20%. Developed Asia is allocated 5% to 10%. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade has emphasized the country’s expanding international economic ties, supported by its Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements that facilitate trade and investment with partner nations.

Transport sector companies expand their overseas footprint

AD Ports Group exemplifies the UAE’s global commercial reach. In 2025, the company operated 34 ports and terminals domestically and internationally. It maintained offices in over 50 countries, with its wider commercial network reaching 158 nations directly or through representatives. The group’s operations include ports, maritime transportation, logistics, and economic zones spanning several trade corridors. Its international presence extends across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

Since 2010, the UAE’s outward FDI stock has increased more than sevenfold. The latest data indicates total overseas investment exceeding $400 billion for 2025. UAE capital now reaches both developed economies and emerging markets across numerous industries. After two years of decline, global investment flows have rebounded. The combined annual outflows and accumulated foreign assets demonstrate the scale of UAE investors’ foreign holdings and highlight the country’s growing international investment footprint.
